Gavin Arora

Level 6 Software Engineering Degree Apprenticeship · Rolls-Royce

“What made the biggest difference in securing this opportunity was choosing quality over quantity.”

The starting point

Where the story began

Gavin approached a highly competitive software-engineering apprenticeship market with a strong academic profile, but he did not rely on grades alone.

What they did differently

The behaviour behind the outcome

He focused on a small number of opportunities, tailored applications to specific employers and created a Notion tracker to manage deadlines and application stages. He also built a substantial body of technical and educational work outside school.

The evidence

What an employer could actually see

His evidence included four software internships, Edvanta, tutoring, a Further Maths paper that reached thousands of students, technical projects and public learning content. He applied to seven apprenticeships, reached four assessment centres and secured an offer from Rolls-Royce.

Research lens

What this case illustrates

A smaller number of well-researched applications can be supported by a much larger bank of real evidence that demonstrates initiative, curiosity and capability.
